5 ways to stop comparing yourself to others

Let's face it, we all have that one friend who seems to have it all. They have a perfect job, a perfect relationship, and they even manage to look perfect while doing it all.

What is “comparisonitis”?

"Comparisonitis" is a term used to describe the habit of constantly comparing oneself to others, often leading to feelings of inadequacy or low self-esteem. It can be especially prevalent in the age of social media, where people often curate their online personas to present a perfect or idealized version of themselves.

It's hard not to compare ourselves to them, but trust me, it's not worth the stress. Here are some tips on how to stop comparing yourself to others and start living your best life today.

  1. Unfollow the perfect people.

Better yet, limit your social media or delete it altogether. I am Instagram-free since 2019 and I do not miss a thing about it. Social media can be great for keeping up with friends and family, but it can also be a breeding ground for comparisonitis.

If you find yourself constantly scrolling through your feed feeling envious but can’t bring yourself to delete it, it's time to make some changes. Unfollow those perfect people who make you feel inferior and start following accounts that inspire you instead. Maybe it's a travel account or a funny meme page. Whatever it is, make sure it brings you joy, not jealousy.

  2. Focus on your Vision.

It's easy to get caught up in what other people are doing and forget about our own contentment and aspirations. Take some time to reflect on what you want out of life and what steps you can take to get there. Remember, everyone's journey is different, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach to success.

  3. Celebrate wins, big and small

We often focus so much on what we haven't achieved yet that we forget to celebrate our successes along the way. No matter how small the win, take a moment to acknowledge it and give yourself a pat on the back. Whether it's acing a test or simply getting out of bed on a Monday morning, every win counts. 4. Practice gratitude.

When we're busy comparing ourselves to others, it's easy to overlook the good things in our own lives. Practicing gratitude can help shift our focus from what we lack to what we already have. Take a few minutes each day to reflect on the things you're thankful for, whether it's a supportive friend or a delicious cup of coffee.

  5. Embrace your uniqueness

We all have something that makes us special and unique. Instead of trying to fit in with the crowd, embrace your quirks and celebrate what makes you different. The world would be a pretty boring place if we were all the same.

Comparing yourself to others is a losing game. Focus on your own journey, celebrate your wins, and practice gratitude. And most importantly, embrace your uniqueness and remember that you're pretty great just the way you are. Now go out there and live your best life!
